Today is International Volunteer Day. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the Amadeus employees who dedicated their time and energy to care for the communities and environment where we work.

Today isInternational Volunteer Day. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the Amadeus employees who dedicated their time and energy to care for the communities and environment where we work.

Through our global volunteering initiative, Amadeus has given me the chance to help others in different ways. From preparing food at theSafe Haven orphanage in Bangkok to joining the volunteer group at theManos de Ayuda Social community kitchen, I’ve experienced first-hand how volunteers can find the activity closest to their heart.

When it comes to volunteering, I like to get involved in social activities, particularly preparing food for those in need, but we aim to make sure there’s something for everyone. Amadeus Volunteer Day activities range from taking part in education and mentoring programs, supporting social inclusion initiatives, or getting hands on with environmental protection work.

A memorable moment for me this year was joining one of the volunteering groups at Manos De Ayuda Social where we helped prepare and serve meals for the homeless and low-income families in our community in Madrid. I felt proud to be part of a team that cares so much about making a difference. I also learnt a lot from the people we served.

I’m sure there are many others who have a special memory to share from their volunteering experience this year.

Actions speak louder than words

This was just one of more than 110 activities at over 80 Amadeus sites that took place this year. To bring these activities to life, more than 2,500 Amadeus employees supported over 90 partner organizations. Actions really do speak louder than words.

In fact, since launching our global Amadeus Volunteer Day initiative back in 2019, we have positively impacted more than 50,000 people and worked with over 300 social organizations. This shows that giving back is not just a one-time thing, but a core value of our company.

Our team efforts at Amadeus tie in with the theme of this year’s International Volunteer Day - the power of collective action: if everyone did. I think that sums up the spirit of volunteering. When each and every one of us comes together, we can overcome challenges and create positive change. As volunteers, we don’t often have a lot of time, but we have a lot of heart. And that’s what counts.
